Google 2 Go

Let’s face it, not everyone has an iPhone or even a smart phone for that matter. There are plenty of folks actually who do not. Actually there are more travelers who don’t than who do. So why should the traveling masses have to go without the ability to Google a restaurant or hotel’s information from the accessibility of their cell phone?

Well they don’t actually. Google has a new product called Goog411 and it is pretty cool, not to mention totally free. Goog411 is a toll-free service that you can call for free phone listings and company addresses. You simply dial 1-800-GOOG411 or 1-800-466-4411, for those of you who don’t like to spell on your keypads, and presto you are Googling.

Once you are on the system you give the prompter the city and state. From there you can start searching by either company name or by category. If you search by category you get the “top results” which I have a feeling are paid for thus how this system is free to the user. Once you have chosen a company you can be directly connected, given details like address and phone number over the phone or you can have the information sent to you as a text message.

Speaking of text messaging and Google, those of you who hate talking on the phone can just send a text message to Google (400453) and get phone numbers and more. Yep, and more, meaning directions, addresses, even definitions of words. Of course here your provider’s standard text messaging applies but you pay nothing for the Google service. Say you need the definition of the word, indelible. Simply text Google and in the message area type, “Define: indelible.” In moments you will get a text back that has the answer to your question and you will instantly be permanently hooked on this cool service. Pun intended.

Traveling is exciting, refreshing and educational but it can also be stressful and full of challenges both small and large. Particularly if you are a traveling mom, organizing the trip, making sure the house is taken care of, packing suitcases… Well, if you are a traveling mom then I have a great website recommendation for you to look at, Kim Orlando’s www.travelingmom.com.

TravelingMom is a great resource site and community sounding board where other traveling moms can research, share ideas, tell their stories and ask each other questions. TravelingMom may have just the answers you are looking for or maybe you have the answers to someone else’s burning question.

While we are on the subject of motherhood and travel, another good site to check out is www.jetwithkids.com. JetWithKids offers moms and dads alike the resources to prepare for and actually enjoy a journey with your kids.

I have found a networking website that could quite possibly make business trips more productive and enjoyable. Interested? Then you need to check out www.triplife.com. TripLife is a free networking community for business travelers who want to search for other professionals to meet during any point of their trip – people whom they ordinarily wouldn’t have met and who could make a difference in their job, career or life.

With this new networking site you can meet a new business prospect in Chicago, find someone to have dinner with in New York or meet a new colleague during the tradeshow to discuss industry happenings. If you’re interested, simply go to TripLife.com and create a profile, enter your trip(s) and any preferences you might have and start connecting with other TripLife members headed the same way.  This is a brand new site and it only works when people participate so tell your friends, colleagues and family about it. The more the merrier. Right? Inviting your contacts to join is easy using any address book or contact database. Now you won’t miss an opportunity to meet with someone simply because you didn’t know they were going to be there.
